Education

Weatherford ISD celebrates a quality education provided every day from pre-kindergarten through High School.  The Weatherford ISD serves 7000 students at 12 campuses.  A large variety of classes are offered to students, including special courses for advanced students, gifted and talented courses, technology courses, as well as Bilingual and English as a second language.

Weatherford ISD has earned the Texas Education Agency's "Recognized" rating.  WISD students continue to excel at college entrance exams and have experienced many successes for academic achievement in various UIL competitions.  The Weatherford ISD Education Foundation also provides teachers access to funding opportunities through a grant award process.  The Foundation has granted $132,000 to 142 teachers since March 2001.

Bose Ikard Elementary and Juan Seguin Elementary schools opened on August 19, 2002.  The Bowie Elementary facility was renovated to serve the students who attend PASS and to serve as a professional development facility.  The Travis Elementary building is the Community Education Adult Education facility and home to the Curriculum Department.  The new Weatherford High School, located at the corner of Interstate 20 and Bethel Road, opened on January 7, 2003.  The old high school facility on South Main is now the Weatherford High School Ninth Grade Center, which opened in August 2003.

With an outstanding community-to-school program, students in WISD receive "real-world" experiences that enhance their overall educational experience.  The commitment of the Weatherford Independent School District - a team of qualified, dedicated educators building hope and forging excellence - is to teach, challenge, and inspire students in a safe, nurturing environment to succeed in life.  WISD believes education enhances the quality of life and empowers people.

Weatherford ISD believes that education enhances the quality of life and that children are our future. For more information, please contact MJ McDaniel, Public Information Officer at 817-598-2948.

In addition to excellent public schools, Weatherford also has outstanding private/Christian schools including Trinity Christian Academy, Weatherford Christian School, and the School House.

Weatherford College

Weatherford College has been educating tomorrow's leaders since 1869 and presently enrolls approximately 10,000 students annually in its credit and non-credit programs.

WC's main campus in Weatherford, located near Interstate 20 in the southeast quadrant of the city, consists of a learning resource center, student center, cafeteria, gymnasium, baseball park, bookstore, fine arts center, and Coyote Village, apartment-style student housing built in 2003.

Plus, WC's farm and agriculture center are located within short driving distances. Additionally, WC Education Centers are in Mineral Wells 20 miles west and Decatur, 30 miles north, making it easy to choose the courses and locations that fit individual needs.

Students may choose from more than 35 areas of study or train for a career in one of 19 professional/technical programs. In each of these disciplines, learning is easy in small, intimate classes led by highly qualified instructors. Students, who come from as close by as Weatherford proper or from as far away as Lithuania and Brazil and beyond, find collegiate sports (award-winning basketball, baseball and rodeo teams for both men and women), dozens of interactive social and service clubs and organizations to enjoy on campus.

A campus tour is easily arranged. Call 817-594-5471.
