Leadership Weatherford

Leadership Weatherford is a program of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce designed to educate, inspire, and empower emerging and established community leaders. The program provides participants with a deeper understanding of regional issues and challenges them to apply their skills and passion in ways that positively impact Parker County.

This nine-month leadership development series features a robust curriculum that includes presentations from local and regional leaders, interactive sessions, and behind-the-scenes tours of key community facilities and services.

Leadership Weatherford offers participants access to information, experiences, and connections they might not encounter otherwise. The goal is to strengthen community engagement, foster leadership, and cultivate lasting business and civic relationships.

COMMITMENT:
Leadership Weatherford is held every other year to align with the Texas Legislative Session, giving participants the opportunity to attend Legislative Day in Austin and gain firsthand insight into the legislative process. While attendance to Legislative Day is optional, it is a valuable component of the program experience.

The program runs from September to May, meeting on the third Friday of each month, and begins with a retreat in late August. Each monthly session lasts 4 to 6 hours and focuses on a different aspect of the community, leadership development, and civic engagement.

Benefits of Leadership Weatherford
Participating in the Leadership Weatherford program offers a wide range of personal and professional benefits designed to help you grow as a leader and make a meaningful impact in your organization and community.

Enhanced Leadership Skills
Gain practical tools and strategies to strengthen your leadership abilities, including communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, strategic thinking, and emotional intelligence.

Increased Self-Awareness
Engage in self-assessment activities and receive valuable feedback from peers and facilitators to better understand your strengths, challenges, values, and leadership style.

Career Advancement
Strong leadership skills are vital for career growth. Completing the program can enhance your resume, boost your confidence, and position you for promotions or new job opportunities.

Networking Opportunities
Connect with fellow participants, guest speakers, instructors, and community leaders—building lasting relationships that open doors to collaboration, mentorship, and professional development.

Personal Growth
Leadership Weatherford goes beyond professional development. Participants often discover new strengths and passions, gain clarity in their purpose, and experience the satisfaction that comes from contributing to the greater good.

Leadership Weatherford is a transformational journey that equips participants with the knowledge, connections, and confidence needed to excel as leaders—at work, at home, and in the community.

Attendance & Participation Expectations

Regular Attendance
Active participation is essential to the success of the Leadership Weatherford experience. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions. A maximum of four (4) hours may be missed over the course of the nine-month program. Any tardiness or partial attendance will count toward this four-hour limit.

Orientation Requirement
Attendance at the Orientation and Opening Retreat in August is mandatory. This session sets the foundation for the program and builds important connections among class members.

Cell Phone Policy
To maintain an engaging and distraction-free environment, all participants are required to silence their cell phones during program activities and class sessions.

Volunteer Service Requirement
Each participant is required to complete a minimum of 20 volunteer hours supporting community initiatives or Chamber-sponsored activities during the program year.

Post-Graduation Involvement
Upon graduation, participants are encouraged to continue their leadership journey by serving on a committee or board—with the Chamber, a City initiative, or a local non-profit organization.

Business Development Committee

The Business Development Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 8:30 a.m. Call for location.

This is the committee for you to have a voice in what kinds of programs the Chamber offers for small business. If you have an idea, the Business Development Committee can help make it happen!

Currently the committee is involved in:

  • Organizing a series of business seminars designed to educate and motivate. Some are great for employers, some are great for employees, but there is something for everyone.
  • Host the Sweet on Business luncheon in February annually
  • Organize iChambershop by soliciting sponsors and gathering prizes
  • Organize and participate in the Poker Run and Scavenger Hunt. These events focus on getting potential clients in your business!

Tourism Committee

The Tourism Committee meets the second Tuesday of every month at 8:30 a.m. Call for location.

This is the committee for you if you have a business that benefits from visitors and tourists or if you're just interested in promoting Weatherford as a tourism destination.

Currently the committee is involved in:

  • Assisting with the Parker County Peach Festival. Weatherford's largest one-day event.
  • Participate in "Adventures" where members do site-visits of tourism-related businesses to learn more about the tourism community.
  • Advising the Chamber on what advertising venues and promotional opportunities we should pursue.
  • Host the semi-annual "Art in Action" art show. Solicits participants and sponsors. This event takes place in the Spring and in the Fall.

Young Business Leaders

The Young Business Leaders meet once a month. For ages 20-40.

Individuals of this group must be employed by a Chamber member. Individuals will learn the ins and outs of business. This group will work their way to becoming leaders in our community. Luncheons will be held in odd months and mixers in even months.
